Karachi: A private security guard was arrested after a video clip went viral on social media showing him torturing a female domestic help in the compound of a residential project in Karachi.

Social media users demanded that the security guard be arrested immediately as such cases of violence against women cannot be tolerated.

After Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took cognisance of the incident, the culprit was arrested.

The CM said that his government would not tolerate excesses committed against women, children and senior citizens.

After the CM’s directives, the police sprang into action, lodged a First Information Report (FIR), and arrested the accused security guard identified as Dawood.

The incident happened at a residential project in Block-17 of the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of the city where the victim, Sana, worked as a domestic help at one of the flats.

Sana is a native of a rural neighbourhood in Bin Qasim Town in Karachi suburbs. The victim said in her complaint to the police that she was five to six months pregnant.

She said that the incident happened after her son who came to give her food and other belongings had been denied entry into the building in the late night hours.

She blamed that three representatives of the residents’ union of the building had denied entry to her son as she came downstairs from the flat where she worked to inquire about the incident.

The victim told the police that one of the representatives of the union had used abusive language against her and also stood up to beat her. She said the security guard tortured her on the directives of the same union representative.
