Pakistan: Nadeem Ahmed Anjum is new ISI chief

Islamabad: Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum has been appointed as the new director-general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s prime spy agency.

The outgoing ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed has been posted as the Peshawar corps commander, according to the official announcement on Wednesday.

The ISI chief is appointed by the prime minister and the decision is made in consultation with the army chief.

Lt Gen Anjum was serving as the commander of Karachi Corps until his appointment as DG ISI. He hails from the Pakistan Military Academy’s 78th Long Course and the Punjab Regiment, Lt Gen Anjum has also served as the commandant of the Command and Staff College, Quetta. He has also served as the inspector general of the Balochistan Frontier Corps (North).

Lt Gen Nadeem has diverse experience in command, staff and instructional assignments. The new DG ISI is a graduate of UK’s Royal College of Defence Studies and Asia-Pacific Centre for Security Studies, Honolulu. He also has a degree from the Combined Arms Centre UK, Staff College Quetta, National Defense University (NDU) Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Lt Gen Mohammad Amir has been posted as Gujranwala corps commander and Lt Gen Asim Munir has been appointed as the quarter master general. Lt Gen Mohammad Saeed has been posted as the Karachi Corps Commander, Lt Gen Nauman Mehmood has been appointed the president of the National Defence University, and Maj Gen Asim Malik has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant general as well as appointed the army’s adjutant general.
