Over 86% COVID-19 patients in Pakistan have recovered

Spread of virus is slowing in Pakistan but experts advise caution during Eid



During the peak days in May and June, Pakistan reported an average 5,000 cases per day.

Islamabad: The coronavirus curve is finally flattening in Pakistan as the country recorded a steady decline in cases with more than 86 percent recovery rate.

The virus infected nearly 271,887 people across Pakistan of which at least 236,596 have already recovered since the outbreak first emerged in late February. The active number of cases in the country now stands at 29,504, according to the latest data by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) - the organization coordinating national efforts in the fight against the pandemic.

On Friday, at least 1,487 new cases were reported across the country. Pakistan recorded 24 deaths from the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, the lowest single-day toll from the virus in the last months, the Health Ministry said. With new fatalities, the total number of deaths from COVID-19 has now reached 5,787, according to the official statistics.

The decreasing trend indicates that the spread of the disease is slowing down in Pakistan. However, the health officials have warned the citizens to strictly follow the health guidelines and observe social distancing particularly during the Eid Al Adha festival as the “next 10 days are very crucial” to contain the virus. “Any negligence by the people on Eid could hamper the improving health situation in the country” said the Planning Minister Asad Umar, who heads the NCOC.

The South Asian country has so far conducted over 1.8 million coronavirus tests. On July 24, 23,600 tests were conducted in the country. At least 11,812 tests were conducted in Sindh, 7,218 in Punjab, 1,772 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 2,171 in Islamabad, 187 in Balochistan, 90 in the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 380 in the AJK, according to the official portal.
