Karachi: The main suspect in the mother-daughter rape case in Kashmore was killed while in police custody. He was reportedly shot by his own accomplice whom the police had gone to arrest.

According to Kashmore police, Rafiq Malik - the main suspect in the rape tragedy - was killed as he accompanied the police during an operation to arrest his accomplice on Friday night.

The police launched the operation in Bakshapur area of Sindh, near Kashmore, to arrest Khairullah Bugti, the other manaccused in the Kashmore tragedy, after Malik identified to the law-enforcers the location of his hideout.

Bugti opened fire and Malik was shot. The police arrested Bugti while Malik succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to hospital.

Earlier, the Sindh government announced that it would write to the federal government to award the top gallantry police medal to Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Bux Buriro of Kashnmore police who used his own daughter as bait to arrest Malik.
