Kulbhushan Jadhav to be given consular access Monday
Indian was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court in 2017
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday announced that Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Indian sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of “espionage and terrorism” in April 2017, would be given consular access on Monday.
“Consular access for Indian spy Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav, a serving Indian naval officer and RAW operative, is being provided on Monday, 2 September 2019,” Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said in a tweet.
He said consular access would be given in line with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the recent judgement of the International Court of Justice and the laws of Pakistan.
Pakistan says that its security forces arrested Jadhav from the Balochistan province on March 3, 2016 after he reportedly entered from Iran. However, India maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Navy.
