Bilawal Bhutto is one of the richest MPs in Pakistan

Pakistan’s politicians have assets worth millions of rupees

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan owns wealth of around Rs110 million (Dh2.55 million) whereas Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is one of the richest parliamentarians with assets exceeding Rs1.54 billion (Dh35.779 million)

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued wealth details of the parliamentarians according to which leaders of all the three major parties Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) own assets worth millions of dollars.

According to the list President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shahbaz Sharif owns around Rs190 million (Dh4.41 million).

These details of the assets owned by incumbent parliamentarians are for the last financial year (2018-19) and according to ECP rules it is a mandatory requirement for the public representatives to submit their assets details under the relevant provisions of electoral laws.

According to Imran Khan’s assets details submitted with the Commission, the net worth of his wealth is valued at Rs108,236,000 (Dh2.51 million). This includes four goats valued at Rs200,000 (Dirham 4,646). The premier has bank accounts in three currencies namely rupee, dollar, pound and euro.

According to the ECP data, Prime Minister Khan does not have any vehicle registered in his name. Khan has shown, in his wealth details, his Banigala residence as a gifted property (gifted by ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith) and has not disclosed its value.

He has Rs24 million (Dh557, 538) cash in hand and owns 155 acres agricultural and commercial land.

According to the ECP document, Imran Khan has also submitted the wealth details of his spouse Bushra Bibi despite the fact she is not a parliamentarian and has no such legal obligation to do so.

According to the wealth details of Bushra Bibi submitted by Prime Minister Khan, she owns a 3-kanal house in Banigala, 431 kanals of land in Pakpattan and 266 kanals of land in Okara registered in her name.

PPP Chairman Bilawal’s wealth details reveal that he is one of the richest lawmakers.

He is a shareholder in two luxury villas in Dubai and their net worth is valued at Rs1.54 billion. In comparison with Bilawal, his father and Co-Chairman of the PPP Asif Ali Zardari’s net assets are worth over Rs670 million (Dh1.55 million).

Besides, Zardari’s horses are worth Rs10 million (Dirham 232,588). He also possesses weapons worth Rs16.6 million (Dirham 386,000). Moreover, six luxury vehicles are registered in Zardari’s name.

Similarly, President PML-N Shahbaz Sharif has two properties and a bank account in London. In Pakistan, the property registered in his name is valued at Rs14.7 million (Dh340,000).
