After a year in office, Imran Khan to issue report card of his government
Islamabad: Exactly a year after he was sworn-in as prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan will address the nation on August 18, 2019 and share his government’s progress report.
In this regard, the PM’s Office has directed all ministries and divisions to submit their respective performance reports.
The report from each department, division and ministry is to highlight five big achievements in the first year of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
According to government sources, all departments have been directed to submit their reports by August 9 so that their respective achievement(s) can be included in the PM’s address.
In his address, Imran is expected to highlight his government’s landmark achievements during the first year in power, challenges overcome and opportunities lying ahead.
Imran considers corruption as the biggest problem of Pakistan and in his public addresses even in speeches delivered outside the country he has been repeatedly expressing his resolve to act against corruption and evolve ‘one Pakistan’ for the rich and the poor alike.
Two former prime ministers — Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi — are behind the bars while two others, Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf are facing corruption references in the Accountability Court.
Former president Asif Ali Zardari is also in NAB lock-up facing investigation in a fake accounts case.
Although opposition parties have cried foul over the arrests and cases against their leaders, Imran continues to take credit for this crackdown, saying voters reposed their trust in him in the July 25, 2018 elections due to his promise to act against corrupt rulers of the past.
In his proposed televised address, the prime minister is expected speak on the PTI government’s measures to reform the economy, bring the ruling elite into the tax net and ensure transparency in tax collection process.
Another important point in his address would be the PTI government’s flagship poverty eradication porgramme, Ehsas, aimed at providing easy, interest-free loans to the youths, monetary support to needy families, free health initiatives for poor families and houses across the country for the hungry and the homeless.
Besides, the PM will also speak on one-billion tsunami trees project, five million housing units construction under Naya Pakistan Housing Programme and Insaf health cards.
