India: Woman steals 25-day-old baby for childless daughter, arrested In Delhi

Dubai: A 58-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing a 25-day-old baby from a woman sleeping on the street, in India's capital state Delhi on Monday.

According to the media sources, the incident came into the light after a 25-year-old woman lodged a child missing. She informed the police that on the midnight of Sunday, she was sleeping along with her two sons on a footpath close to Gole Hatti street in Delhi.

When she woke in the morning, her baby boy was missing. Subsequently, she lodged a grievance at the Lahori Gate police station.

Police officials state that the woman who was living near the street abducted the newborn with the intent of giving him to her childless daughter.

During the investigation, police officials analysed CCTV camera footage of the area. Later, she was arrested, and the baby was returned to the mother.

Confirming the incident, the police officials said: "The accused runs a shop in Khari Baoli street in Delhi. She has two married daughters, and one of her daughter who lives in Uttar Pradesh state doesn't have any kids. And this made her commit the crime.”

Officials added: "The accused noticed that for the final two days, a woman was staying close by on the footpath along with her two sons. She observed that one was newly born, and thus decided to steal the child. On Monday, she kidnapped the toddler, who was sleeping along with his mum on the footpath, and handed him over to her childless daughter.”
