Indian Army handed over eight-year-old boy’s body to Pakistan army on father’s request
Dubai: Indian and Pakistan armies worked together in a rare humanitarian case of boy who drowned in a river in Pakistan side of Kashmir and found from Indian side.
Following father’s appeal, an Indian army came into action and started the procedure to hand over the boy’s body to Pakistan army.
Body of an eight-year-old boy Abid Shaikh who drowned in a river in Pakistan administrated Kashmir, was fished out across the Line of Control (LOC) from the river in Indian Administered Kashmir on July 8.
According to report, the boy had drowned in Neelum River in Minimarg area of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan administered Kashmir and his body was recovered in Kishenganga River (Name of Neelum River on India side) in Gurez valley.
Though at least three attempts by the Indian army to hand over the body to Pakistan army failed as the latter had refused to take the body, Indian army was determined to send the body to the parents who live across the LOC.
Finally, after three days of continuous efforts, Indian authorities succeeded in handing over the body to Pakistan army. An official said that lengthy process to identify the body took some time in receiving the body.
An official told local media that the body was handed over to Pakistan army by the officials of the district administration Bandipora, police and Indian Army at Dudgai Post Chorwan.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shahbaz Mirza said that army officials gave back the body at 2 pm on Thursday.
“Following appeals posted by the father of the boy on the social media, three attempts were made yesterday (Tuesday) to hand over the body to the Pakistan Army, but they initially refused to take it back,” police sources told media.
