Coronavirus: Friends throw virtual pre-wedding 'sangeet' for Indian couple

The nationawide coronavirus lockdown in India did not stop a group of friends from throwing a Sangeet (Indian pre-wedding music function), for a bride-to-be and the internet is loving it.

With events and gatherings being cancelled around the world due to coronavirus, people are finding creative ways to hold virtual versions and wedding functions are included.

A video of a group of friends making a couple's wedding celebrations special, is going viral on the internet.

A Twitter user, 28-year-old Gazal Bawa was supposed to get married recently. However, she had to postpone her wedding because of the virus outbreak. So, her friends decided to throw a virtual Sangeet party for her and her husband-to-be.

Social media users are appreciating the heartwarming gesture.

Taking to her Twitter account, Bawa, @gazalbawa, posted the clip and wrote: “Our friends threw us a #BawaMani Virtual Sangeet Party since our wedding couldn’t take place this weekend! Our hearts are full of love for these […] who made our day.”

The video begins with a text message for the duo: "Gazal and Hemant, here's little something from all of us together in isolation."

Then the group of friends, dressed in traditional attires, start dancing to a Punjabi song.

The clip ends with the text: "Happy shaadi (marriage) you guys! Here’s to you both and an endless togetherness."

Speaking to news magazine India Today, Bawa was quoted as saying: "Friends from US, Europe, Singapore and India got together and surprised us."

After being posted, the video garnered over 62,000 views. Netizens were quick to react to the sweet gesture and appreciated the couple’s friends for their efforts.

Tweep @monikamanchanda posted: “This is adorable. Congratulations.”

Similarly, user @Faaaari tweeted: “Such a lovely gesture... Blessed to have such friends.”

To which Bawa replied: “I really am”.

Twitter user @DeepikaBhardwaj wanted to join in: “I feel like dancing for the couple seeing this.”
