Year of the 50th: Prague’s Petrín Tower lights up in UAE colours
Dubai: The popular Petrin Lookout Tower, located on a hill in the centre of Prague, lit up in UAE national colours, as Czech Republic paid tribute to the UAE’s 50th National Day.
With the support of the City Hall of Prague Hall, the gesture was an initiative of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Abu Dhabi. From December 2 at 4.25pm (Prague time) to December 3, 7.30am, residents of Prague had the opportunity to watch the exceptionally lit Petrín Lookout Tower. Built in 1891, Petrín Lookout Tower, a steel-framework tower 63.5 metres tall, resembles the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It is a major tourist attraction in Prague.
Important partners
The Czech Republic is an important partner of the UAE in among the member states of the European Union. “Both countries have very good political, economic and cultural relations and mutual trade is growing. For the Czech Republic, the UAE is the second largest trading partner in the Middle East and the MENA region after Israel,” noted the Czech Republic Embassy.
“The Czech Republic congratulates the UAE on its Golden Jubilee and wishes many more successes in achieving its ambitious goals in the future. The Czech Republic reciprocally responds to the helpful step of the UAE, which at the request of the Embassy of the Czech Republic on the occasion of the Czech Republic’s National Day on October 28, 2019, lit the dominant skyscraper of the emirate oil company ADNOC in Abu Dhabi; and on October 28, 2020, the tallest landmark in the world, Burj Khalifa, was lit in Czech national colours.
Popular tourist destinations
The Czech Republic Embassy also noted: “The UAE is one of the most popular tourist destinations for the citizens of the Czech Republic in recent years, not only because of the high level of services offered, but also due to the way the Emirates coped with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Reciprocally, the Czech Republic is popular destination among UAE residents because of its historical monuments and spas, which are among the most famous in Europe. Young people also go to the Czech Republic for fun or study.
Czech pavilion at Expo 2020
Meanwhile, the Czech Republic was among the first countries that onfirmed its participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai. The Czech national pavilion will hold its National Day called “Czech Spring” on March 21, 2022, which will be attended by a high-level delegation from the Czech Republic.
