Pakistan Independence Day: Expats urged to portray positive image of their country

Ambassador Tirmzi urges expats to demonstrate utmost respect for the local laws

Dubai: Pakistani diplomatic missions and various community groups in the UAE celebrated their country’s 77th Independence Day anniversary on Wednesday, August 14.

Pakistanis missions, cultural centres, associations and even restaurants in the UAE wore a festive look adorned with colourful lights and flags.

Pakistan Embassy hosted the official events with a flag hoisting ceremony in Abu Dhabi to celebrate the Independence Day. A large number of community members atttended the event while school students sang national songs. Ambassador of Pakistan Faisal Niaz Tirmizi raised the flag.

Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the need of unity, faith and discipline in pursuing collective efforts towards Pakistan’s socioeconomic progress; and prayed for peace and prosperity of the country. He urged the community members to continuously play their constructive role in the development of Pakistan.

Ambassador appreciated their contribution in the development of UAE as well as support to national economy through remittances. He noted that Pakistani diaspora has made immense contribution in the progress and economic development of the UAE.

“On this Day, I convey my sincere gratitude to the UAE leadership for hosting more than 1.8 million Pakistanis in the Emirates. I urge you (Pakistani expats) to demonstrate utmost respect for the local laws, regulations, and customs of our host country, which is our second home,” he added.

Ambassador Tirmizi also planted a tree on the occasion and inaugurated the newly renovated Consular Hall of the Embassy.

In a separate ceremony, Pakistan Consul General Hussain Mohammed hoisted the national flag at the Pakistan Consulate General in Dubai. The event was attended by some Pakistani community members and their families.

Welcoming the guests, Consul General Muhammad emphasised that Pakistan and UAE enjoy exceptionally cordial and brotherly relations which will further strengthen in future.

He added that UAE is home to more than 1.8 million Pakistanis working in various sectors who have played a key role in the progress and development of this country.

“Let us celebrate this Independence Day with a sense of responsibility and decorum, exemplifying the values of civilised nations. Together, let us honour our heritage and contribute positively to the vibrant and diverse society of the UAE,” he added.
