Cypriot and Saudi man win $1 million each in Dubai Duty Free draw

Two others to drive away luxury vehicles in the Finnest Surprises draw

Dubai: A Cypriot national and a Saudi national have been announced as the new dollar millionaires at the latest Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire held on Wednesday at Dubai International Airport.

Kyriacos Michaelides, a 43-year-old Cypriot national based in Johannesburg, South Africa became a $1 million winner, in Millennium Millionaire Series 474 with ticket number 2755 which he purchased on September 5 on his way to Paris.

A regular participant in Dubai Duty Free’s promotion for more than 10 years now, Michaelides ran a distribution company of gift items and toys in Johannesburg.

“After more than 10 years of religiously purchasing ticket to your promotion, I’m glad to have finally won! Thank you Dubai Duty Free,” he said.

Michaelides is the 2nd Cypriot national to have won the Millennium Millionaire promotion since 1999.

Saudi winner

Joining Michaelides as a fellow US dollar millionaire is Abdullah Alsayed, a 65-year-old Saudi national based in Riyadh. He was announced as the winner of $1 million in Millennium Millionaire Series 475 with ticket number 0300 which he purchased online on September 13.

A regular participant in Dubai Duty Free’s promotion for more than 20 years now, Mr. Alsayed who purchased 20 tickets for Series 475 is a father of five and works for a real estate company.

When asked about his initial plan with his winnings, he said: “I will invest it in a business and keep some for my children’s education.”

Alsayed is the 14th Saudi Arabian national to have won the Millennium Millionaire promotion since 1999. The draw was conducted by Dubai Duty Free Managing Director, Ramesh Cidambi accompanied by other officials.

Finest Surprise draw

Following the Millennium Millionaire draw, the Finest Surprise draw was conducted for one luxury car and motorbike.

Peter Svenning, an American national based in the US won a luxury car with ticket number 1251 in the Finest Surprise Series 1892 which he purchased online on September 1. Ebin Thankachan, an Indian national based in the UK, also won an a heavy motorbike
