Dubai: Last night, on New Year's eve, Ras Al Khaimah created history with its fireworks show featuring two record-breaking acts: the use of the most unmanned aerial vehicles launching fireworks simultaneously (173) and the spell-binding sight of the "longest firework firewall".

Preparations were measured against stringent guidelines set by adjudicators from Guinness World Records. For the "longest firework waterfall" the fireworks hung on wires at a distance measuring 3,788.86 metres, in the hope of breaking the previous record of 3,517.23 metres recorded in Fukuoka, Japan.

These two records take the total number of Guinness World Records set for fireworks hosted by Ras Al Khaimah to five in just three years.

The first record was for accomplishing a captivating firework display with the use of 173 PyroDrones, all executing a seamlessly created firework display, simultaneously.

The fireworks ushered in the New Year by creating a visual ‘2020’ in the sky followed by an elegant chandelier draped with a beautiful cascade of pyrotechnic sparks ending with the recreation of the monuments of Ras Al Khaimah.

The display leveraged advanced pyrotechnics and integrated wireless technology lighting up the shores of the emirate in majestic brilliance.

The second record for the ‘Longest Fireworks Waterfall’ was at least 28cm in length and 3cm in diameter and were hung across the 3,788.86 metre length. It also served as the grand finale of the event.

Crowds thronged the main venue of Al Marjan Island, the flagship residential and hospitality development by Marjan, the master-developer of Ras Al Khaimah, from early in the evening as well as at viewing decks along Al Hamra. Several family activities and food stalls engaged audiences until the countdown to the New Year and the fireworks display.

For the first time, Ras Al Khaimah also hosted the New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner that was headlined by multi-Platinum singer, songwriter, and fashion icon, Najwa Karam, and celebrity singer Waleed Al Shami.

At 2019's New Year's Eve event the emirate took the world records for the 'Longest chain of fireworks' and  the 'Longest straight line of fireworks'. The 2018 celebration set a new world record for the 'Largest aerial firework shell'.
