Cairo: A Saudi man had been arrested for involvement in dozens of thefts and robberies targeting ATMS, shopping centres and pharmacies, a police official has said.

The offender was caught while smashing an ATM booth in eastern Riyadh, spokesman for the city's police Col. Chaker Al Tuwijri added, according to the Saudi newspaper Okaz.

The man in his 40s admitted to having robbed seven shopping centres and 33 pharmacies, including six outside Riyadh, the official said. The overall value of the thefts amounted to 280,000 Saudi riyals, according to the official.

"He was arrested and legal procedures are being taken to refer him to public prosecution," Col. Al Tuwijri added.
