Cairo: Saudi traffic authorities have said they will soon start using an automatic system for monitoring road lanes to spot motorists who deviate among lanes without signaling.

The new system will be implemented in the three cities of Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah after seven days, the Saudi Traffic Directorate added.

“The move aims at enhancing traffic safety measures,” it said on its Twitter account.

In January, a new Saudi traffic law went into effect toughening penalties against such road violations as driving past red signals, moving in the wrong direction, using unlicensed number plates and leaving a car without switching off the engine.
