Ruling underscores strict measures against exploiting Hajj season for personal gain

Dubai: The Criminal Court in Mecca has sentenced an Asian citizen to one year in prison and imposed a fine of SR10,000 after he was found guilty of operating a fake Hajj campaign through a social media platform with the intent to defraud pilgrims.
The court also ordered the confiscation of all devices and tools used in carrying out the fraudulent activity.
Security authorities had arrested the suspect and seized receipts linked to the illegal campaign.
Following his arrest, he was referred to the Public Prosecution, which in turn transferred the case to the Criminal Court.
The Public Prosecution emphasised that involvement in fake Hajj campaigns constitutes a major offence punishable by law stressing its firm commitment to pursuing anyone who violates Hajj regulations and ensuring they are held accountable.
The ruling underscores the Kingdom’s strict stance and stern measures against those who attempt to exploit the spiritual pilgrimage season for personal gain and serves as a warning to others who may attempt to deceive pilgrims.
