Cairo: Saudi Arabia has advised pilgrims to be vigilant against financial fraud as increasing numbers of Muslims are converging on the kingdom to perform the Umrah or lesser pilgrimage during the current Islamic month of Ramadan.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has outlined a set of necessary steps for the pilgrims to take in order to protect their money during the current Umrah season.
According to the ministry, the best ways to stave off financial fraud include avoiding transferring money to unknown people, be wary of sharing personal banking information or responding to dubious calls or messages, and ensuring that only official apps are downloaded.
The ministry has urged the pilgrims to immediately report any fraudulent attempts to relevant security authorities or through the Saudi Central Bank's platform designated "Aman" (Safety).
The pilgrims' diligence and observance of preventive measures contribute to curtailing fraud and swindle, the ministry added.
Millions of Muslims from all over the world flock to Saudi Arabia, Islam's birthplace, to undertake the Umrah and pray in the Grand Mosque in Meca.
The lunar month of Ramadan, noted for devout worshipping, traditionally marks the peak of the Umrah season.
In the run-up to the sacred month, Saudi authorities have mobilized all resources to receive the influx of pilgrims in Mecca and enable them to perform the rites with ease and comfort.
