Five of eleven Kuwaitis detained at Guantamo Bay in Cubai may be released soon, the head of an inmate support group said on Sunday.
Khalid Al Ouda, head of the society of families of Kuwaiti prisoners in Guantanamo, said the United States has agreed to return the prisoners to Kuwait, although no timeline has been set.
"Talks between the US and Kuwaiti governments have almost been completed to release five of the prisoners…We are optimistic this will take place after a month or so," he said.
Meanwhile, six Kuwaiti prisoners have joined 200 inmates in a hunger strike to protest their confinement without trial, Ouda said.
"Two of the six, Abdulaziz Al Shimmari and Fawzi Al Ouda, have been hospitalised after their health deteriorated for refusing to take food for five weeks," said Ouda.
