Cairo: Kuwaiti police have arrested a man suspected of involvement in a string of store robberies while putting on a mask.
The 31-year-old suspect, an illegal resident, was apprehended in the Hawalli governorate in eastern Kuwait after having committed 13 cases of breaking into stores and stealing from them in different areas of the country, Kuwaiti newspaper Al Anba reported. His raids included robbing a sweet shop and a restaurant in Hawalli, the report said.
Investigations revealed that the suspect used a silver car in his dawn robberies after making sure that the place was empty and then smashed the locks of the targeted stores, a security source was quoted by Al Anba as saying.
“Through the deployment of the force and tracking the unknown accused, and after using surveillance cameras around the robbery sites, the perpetrator was seen wearing a mask to conceal his facial features,” the source added.
Police found out that the same person had robbed several stores on one day. He was identified and arrested, along with the car used in the heists.
“When confronted with the crimes, he admitted to having committed all of them. He also admitted to have committed other incidents using the same criminal style in different areas of the country, namely in the governorates of Hawalli, the Capital and Al Jahra,” added the source.
Police have circulated the criminal method of the suspect to all governorates in Kuwait to potentially reach similar cases in which he may be involved.
