Manama: Kuwait will soon launch a massive campaign to ensure that no expatriate is holding two public sector jobs.

According to the local rules and regulations, expatriates are not allowed to have more than one occupation in the state.

As a first move, the Civil Service Bureau is planning to contact all ministries and official agencies to gather information about the expatriates who have more than one job within the government, Al Jareeda daily said.

The expatriates will then be asked to choose only one occupation and abide by the regulations.

The move will be a blow for hundreds of expatriates who seek to make more money by combining two jobs.

According to the Public Authority for Civil Information, the expatriate community in Kuwait, the majority of whom are Asians, was 2.34 million, forming 68 percent of the total population.

The number of expatriate workers was 1.73 million in the first half of 2009, a slide of 20,000 workers over 2008.
