Cairo: Kuwait has confirmed 527 cases of the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, taking the country's infection tally to 36,958, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported Tuesday.

Five more deaths from COVID-19 were announced, bringing the total such fatalities in Kuwait to 303.

All the new cases were in contact with previously infected people or are being investigated for sources of infection, the Health Ministry's spokesman Dr Abdullah Al Sanad said in a media update.

There are 194 patients receiving intensive care treatment, according to the official.

He added that 51 more people have completed mandatory institutional quarantine and will have to spend 14 additional days in home isolation.

Kuwait so far has done a total of 340,142 virus tests including 2,755 over the past 24 hours, according to Dr Al Sanad.

The ministry said that 675 more patients have recovered from the disease over the past 24 hours, raising to 28,206 the total of such recoveries so far in the country.
