Kottayam (Kerala): In a tragic incident, a woman in Kerala’s Kottayam district and her two young daughters died by suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train near their home in Ettumanoor early Friday, officials said.

The incident occurred around 5:30am and came to light when the loco pilot of the Kottayam–Nilambur Express alerted railway authorities and the police.

The pilot reported seeing three people on the tracks and sounding the horn multiple times, but they did not move away.

A police team arrived at the scene and identified the deceased through CCTV footage. The victims were Shiny (43) and her daughters, Aleena (11) and Evana (10).

Shiny, a nurse by profession, was going through divorce proceedings with her husband, Noby, and had been living with her parents along with her children. She also had a son studying at a sports school in Ernakulam.

According to police, Shiny and her daughters left home early in the morning, telling family members they were going to church for morning mass but instead ended their lives on the railway tracks.

Shiny had been searching for a job but had faced repeated setbacks, which is believed to have contributed to the tragic decision.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
