SANTIAGO: The ‌German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) ​said on ​Monday a magnitude ⁠6.9 earthquake ​struck northern Chile, ​east of the city of Calama, Reuters reported.

The ​GFZ ​had earlier pegged the ‌quake ⁠at a magnitude of 6.5.

The earthquake struck ​at ​a ⁠depth of 89 ​km (55.3 miles), ​it ⁠added.

Updates continue to emerge as local and geological authorities assess the impact and potential aftershocks.
