SANTIAGO: The ‌German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said on Monday a magnitude ⁠6.9 earthquake struck northern Chile, east of the city of Calama, Reuters reported.

The GFZ had earlier pegged the ‌quake ⁠at a magnitude of 6.5.

The earthquake struck at a ⁠depth of 89 km (55.3 miles), it ⁠added.

Updates continue to emerge as local and geological authorities assess the impact and potential aftershocks.
