Dubai: The Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara and The Hindu Temple in Dubai and Shri Krishna Temple in Bur Dubai on Friday announced temporary closures until further notice, following directives from Dubai authorities citing safety and security reasons.

The announcements come on the same day that several of the emirate's churches suspended in-person services under similar official guidance.

In a statement issued to devotees, the Hindu Temple Dubai's management said: “The Hindu Temple Dubai will remain closed until further notice for safety and security reasons.”

The management apologised for the inconvenience caused and requested the devotees' understanding and cooperation, adding prayers for everyone’s safety and well-being.

Speaking to Gulf News, Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai, confirmed that the Gurudwara had also received instructions to shut its doors.

"We got instructions from the Community Development Authority in Dubai to close the Gurudwara," he said.

"As a precautionary measure for security reasons, CDA has asked us to close,” he added.

Shri Krishna Temple in Bur Dubai closed

Meanwhile, the Shri Krishna Temple in Bur Dubai also made a similar announcement.

"Shri Krishna Temple in Bur Dubai will remain temporarily closed from Friday, April 3, 2026, until further notice, following directives from Dubai authorities citing safety and security reasons," the temple management said in a statement to Gulf News.

"The Management apologises for the inconvenience caused and requests the devotees' understanding and cooperation. Prayers for everyone's safety and well-being," it added.

Churches closed as well

The temporary closures follow a wave of similar announcements from Dubai's Christian congregations. Several churches across Dubai suspended in-person services starting April 3, following directives from UAE authorities to ensure public safety and community well-being.

Churches cancelled Good Friday services and many offered livestreaming of services online. Some churches instructed worshippers to just pray at home.

However, dozens of devotees, who were unaware of the late-night announcements, still ended up visiting some churches. They were seen praying from outside the closed gates of churches.
