Dubai: As part of its summer awareness campaign titled ‘Expand Your Smart Choices This Summer’, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has called on residential customers to activate the ‘Away Mode’ feature before leaving for their summer holidays.
The feature allows users to monitor their electricity and water consumption remotely, ensuring optimal usage while away from home.
Available via DEWA’s website and smart app, ‘Away Mode’ lets customers specify the activation period and receive daily or weekly updates by email. This proactive feature enables early intervention in the event of irregular consumption, helping to reduce waste and conserve resources.
In addition to using this digital tool, DEWA recommends turning off all interior lights, setting timers for outdoor and garden lighting, and closing water valves to prevent leaks.
Customers are also advised to carry out routine maintenance on electricity and water connections prior to travel and to hire qualified technicians when needed. DEWA’s smart app offers access to trusted technical service providers through the DEWA Store.
The campaign also encourages residents to explore the broader benefits of DEWA’s Smart Living initiative. Through the initiative, customers can monitor their electricity and water usage on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis via an interactive dashboard.
The Consumption Assessment Tool provides tailored efficiency tips by analysing usage patterns, while the High-Water Usage Alert notifies users immediately of abnormal consumption, allowing for quick detection of potential leaks.
