Dubai: The UAE Yoga Committee, established under the Ministry of Sports and the UAE Sports for All Federation, is introducing a framework to regulate yoga practices across the country.

“The aim of this committee is to regulate yoga practices in the UAE, across all cities and nationalities,” said Ahmed Ibrahim, President of the UAE Yoga Committee and Vice Chairman of the Asian Yogasana Federation.

“With more than 200 nationalities residing here, we are supporting all forms of yoga –physical, mental, and spiritual,” he noted.
“There will be no discrimination. We are here to support everyone. That is our mission.”

Yoga is not haram, says Ahmed Ibrahim

Inclusivity lies at the heart of the UAE Yoga Committee’s mission.
“We support all types of yoga – spiritual, physical, and mental – regardless of religion or nationality,” Ibrahim said.

Addressing concerns within conservative communities, Ibrahim clarified that yoga can be practised by individuals of any religion.
“Yoga is not haram. It has many roots. We are focusing on the physical aspect first, which makes it more easily accepted within the community,” he said.

Ibrahim added that once people begin to experience the physical benefits, they will naturally appreciate the deeper value of the practice.
