Dubai: The Indian Consulate General in Dubai on Wednesday issued an advisory for Grade 12 students offering them a rare walk-in facility to apply for NRI certificates.

The move comes as India's college admission season approaches, giving families a narrow but welcome window to get their paperwork in order.

One-time window

“On Saturday, April 4, 2026, all eligible students can apply for NRI certificates at any BLS centre as walk-ins, without a prior appointment,” the mission announced.

This means students can walk into any BLS centre in Dubai and the Northern Emirates without a prior appointment to apply for their NRI certificates.

“Students are required to present their 12th-grade document and proof of college admission for securing the appointment,” the Consulate said.

First come, first served

The Consulate is urging applicants to arrive early, as services will run on a first-come, first-served basis. Long queues are likely given the demand, and officials want to avoid students being turned away due to delays.

Applicants can find the necessary application form and a full list of required documents at the Consulate's official link: https://www.cgidubai.gov.in/content/Application-Proforma-for-NRI-Certificate-CGl.pdf

Situation being monitored

The Consulate said it will continue to monitor the situation and issue further updates as needed, signalling that additional support could follow if the demand warrants it.

For thousands of Indian families based in the UAE, NRI certificates are a critical document in securing seats under the NRI quota at colleges and universities across India. The walk-in drive is expected to be a significant relief amid what is typically a stressful admission period especially amid the ongoing regional tensions.
