They say love is in the details, and nowhere is that more evident than in the art of a perfectly curated Valentine’s beauty look. Whether you’re planning a romantic candlelit dinner, a fun girls’ night out, or a solo self-love soirée, your makeup should be just as enchanting as the occasion. And let’s be real — there’s no such thing as being too extra on February 14. It’s a night made for sultry eyes, kiss-proof lips, and just the right amount of sparkle to ensure you’re unforgettable. But this year, classic red lips and soft pink hues are stepping aside for bold reinventions, unexpected textures, and a touch of high-drama glamour.

Statement lips

While a classic crimson pout has long been the Valentine’s Day staple, makeup artists are embracing alternative shades and innovative textures for 2025. Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath shared in an interview that bold, high-shine finishes are taking centre stage. “This season, we’re seeing a resurgence of vinyl-like lips — deep berries, rich chocolates, even deep plums. It’s about making a statement without saying a word,” she said. Celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury also encouraged beauty lovers to break away from tradition, claiming in Vogue: “A matte red will always be a power move, but this year, we’re seeing a lot of glossed, almost lacquered lips that create an instant wow effect.”

Let’s not forget about lip stains, which have made a major comeback. Rihanna, whose Fenty Beauty brand has become a go-to for makeup enthusiasts, said: “A deep-stain lip gives you that just-kissed look — sexy, effortless, and long-wearing. You don’t have to worry about reapplying all night.” The perfect date-night hack? Apply a sheer stain, let it set, and top it with a gloss for a dimensional, fuller-lip effect.

Romantic flush

Blush is no longer a supporting act — it’s the main event. This Valentine’s, draped blush and soft, sculpted cheeks are defining the look of romance. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo, who has worked with Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid, said: “Blush is having a real moment — think lifted, sculpted, but soft. It’s less about contouring with bronzer and more about using blush to shape the face.”

The go-to shades? Rosy mauves, soft corals, and even a flush of berry. Makeup brand NARS backed this trend, with a spokesperson revealing, “We’ve seen a shift from traditional contouring to using blush in strategic placements — higher on the cheekbones, blended into the temples—for an ultra-romantic and youthful effect.”

Euphoric eyes

Forget subtle eyeshadow — this season, it’s all about ethereal sparkle and glossy finishes. Global makeup icon Danessa Myricks said: “We’re seeing holographic shimmer, glossy lids, and even bold pastels making an appearance.” She suggested layering cream-based shimmers for a multidimensional glow.

Meanwhile, celebrity makeup artist Nikki Wolff, who works with Dua Lipa and Kendall Jenner, pointed out a rising trend in graphic eyeliner. She said in a magazine: “A sharp, winged liner is timeless, but 2025 is all about playing with negative space, floating liners, and even pastel or metallic flicks.”

If you want something even more playful, Hailey Bieber’s go-to makeup artist, Mary Phillips, suggested the wet look for eyes. She explained: “Glossy lids with a bit of shimmer give that dreamy, dewy vibe — it’s sensual and fresh without trying too hard.”

The ultimate glow

Flawless, radiant skin is always in, but this Valentine’s, the trend is about a lit-from-within glow. Gucci Westman, Founder of Westman Atelier, shared: “Skin prep is everything—hydration, high-quality priming, and layering creamy, luminous textures make the skin look effortless and healthy.” She advised skipping heavy powder and opting for balmy highlighters.

As for that final finishing touch? Kim Kardashian’s longtime makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic said: “A soft-focus glow is key — nothing too matte or cakey. Think second-skin foundation with just a whisper of highlight on the high points.”
