Director Ol Parker will helm the upcoming film Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! — a sequel to the 2008 hit film Mamma Mia.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel fame director will also be writing the movie. Universal Studios has slated the film for a release on July 20, 2018, reports Variety.

Playtone Pictures, which produced the first film starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth and Christine Baranski, is back for the sequel.

According to sources, one angle could focus on Streep, Firth, and Brosnan’s characters years before the original takes place.

The first film is based on the iconic musical about a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular 1970s group Abba.

According to an announcement by the studio, the sequel will feature Abba songs not featured in the 2008 movie, along with some reprised favourites.
