South Indian superstar Dhanush, who is gearing up for the release of his debut Bollywood film ‘Raanjhanaa’, says has no plans to work in more Hindi movies as yet.

The 30-year-old ‘Kolaveri Di’ hitmaker said he will first see the response to the film then decide on taking up other Bollywood projects.

“I do not plan like that. I just came across a good script. I am not concerned about anything but the happiness of Anand L. Rai (director). I am waiting for the reaction of the audience,” said Dhanush.

Dhanush plays a Hindu boy from Benaras who falls in love with Sonam Kapoor’s character, a Muslim girl.

Rai cast Dhanush after the star’s song ‘Kolaveri Di’ became a rage, but the director did not want to take advantage of the actor’s image.

“I didn’t want a singer but an actor,” said Rai.

“He is a better actor than a singer. The aim was not to cash in on his ‘Kolaveri Di’ fame but to focus on huim as an actor.”

The trailer of the film shows a love triangle between Dhanush, Kapoor and Abhay Deol.

Hindi is not Dhanush’s first language, but his character in ‘Raanjhanaa’ is required to speak chaste Hindi. “I was pleased to see myself speak Hindi on-screen. It will take time and more practice to speak fluently.”

Quizzed about the difference in working culture between the Hindi and Tamil film industries, tha ctor said, “There is no difference at all in filmmaking process. I found it really easy and simple here compared to the south [India].”

On his family’s reaction

“We all are waiting for the release and until now he [father-in-law Rajinikanth] hasn’t made any comment. I am sure once the film is out, he will have his comments. Aishwarya [Dhanush’s wife] saw the promos and they all are thrilled to see me speaking in Hindi.”

On learning Hindi

“Since I don’t know Hindi, it was very tough for me... I somehow managed with the help of writer Himanshu Sharma and the director [Rai]. But when I was dubbing, it was pretty tough to get the diction and the Benaras slang right. I had a good team, so I think I pulled it off.”

On the overnight success of ‘Kolaveri Di’

“Kolaveri Di gave me overnight success and gave me exposure but it was a miracle and I wish people will not judge me by that one song. I strongly believe that people will have enough reason for recognising me as an actor after watching ‘Raanjhanaa’.”
