Dubai: Residents, companies and government offices can now easily exchange recyclable materials by visiting the Dubai Municipality (DM) website.

The new electronic platform, announced by the civic body on Monday, will link those with recyclables to companies that need materials to manufacture new products.

Eng. Abdulmajeed Saifaie, director of Waste Management Department, said: “The establishment of such an electronic platform for the exchange of recyclable or reusable materials is the first of its kind in the region. It links the reusable or recyclable materials generating party (individuals and companies) with the other parties that may benefit from these materials in the manufacture of new products.

Circular economy

Saifaie noted the e-platform on DM website (dm.gov.ae) will also contribute to “promoting Dubai’s adoption of the concept of circular economy.”

“The initiative targets individuals, the business sector, companies, institutions and government bodies. The platform also has several features, such as the list of recyclable and useable materials, the possibility to follow up on the status of materials listed by site users, and browsing the materials offered by all groups,” he added.
