Ferrari shuts production down due to coronavirus

Hot on the heels of Lamborghini shutting its Italian headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese due to the coronavirus outbreak, arch-rival Ferrari has now followed suit by announcing it is temporarily closing two manufacturing centres in the country.

The Italian sportscar maker is suspending production in Maranello and Modena until March 27 and says it has taken steps to ensure high health standards at its facilities.

Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri said, "At a time like this, my gratitude goes first and foremost to Ferrari's women and men who, with their tremendous commitment over the past few days, have demonstrated the passion and dedication that defines our marque. It is out of our respect for them, for their peace of mind and those of their families that we have decided on this course of action."

Italy has reported more than 20,000 cases of the virus and over 1,440 deaths and is currently under total lockdown.
