Riyadh: Aerobatic team Saudi Hawks of the Royal Saudi Air Force will perform at the 9th Al Ain Aerobatic Show in the United Arab Emirates due to be held from February 2 to 5.

Saudi Hawks was created on June 6 1998. It debuted in January 1999 in Riyadh as part of Saudi Arabia's centennial anniversary establishment celebrations. The Saudi Hawks displayed and participated in a number of official and public ceremonies inside and outside the kingdom representing professionalism and excellence of the Saudi armed forces and its personnel. This year's Al Ain Aerobatic show is expected to be the big international debut for the Saudi Hawks.

At Al Ain, Saudi Hawks will form Saudi Arabia's national flag insignia, consisting of two swords crossed over a palm tree.

According to Colonel Abdullah Al Ghamdi, commander of the Saudi team, the Hawks will also perform sky drawing, also known as ‘the emblem move.' He noted that this move has successfully enabled the Saudi Hawks to enter the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010 as the first aerobatic team to execute the largest sky drawing. The emblem is the 2 swords and the palm of the Saudi Arabian flag.

It is worth mentioning that the Saudi Hawks were awarded the golden medal in the jet category for two consecutive years in 2004 and 2005.
