Dubai:Social media and Blackberry Messenger have been afire the past few days with Lebanese 'netizens' sending jokes back and forth to lighten up the tense situation that have escalated in their home country.
While the situation is extremely serious and worrisome, the Lebanese — who have endured decades of brutal civil war — have learnt that the best way to deal with chaos is to poke fun at the situation.
'Sponsored by Bridgestone tyres'
“The situation in Lebanon has been sponspored by Bridgestone tyres,” read one message, poking fun at residents of the southern suburbs of Beirut who took to the streets and burnt tires and blocked roads in protest of the kidnappings of Lebanese in Syria.
Another message was a schedule to organise timings for different religious sects on when is their turn to burn tyres —allocating Sundays for Sunnis, Mondays for Shiites, Tuesdays for Druze and Wednesdays for Maronites, and finally inviting all sects for a joint barbeque party on Thursday.
Many Lebanese also changed their display pictures to portray the Lebanese flag with a tire placed instead of the cedar tree.
