Cairo: Oman Tuesday confirmed 292 further cases of the new coronavirus, taking to 5,671 the country's overall infections, the Health Ministry said.

The newly diagnosed cases include 119 Omanis and 173 foreigners, the ministry said without giving a breakdown of foreign patients’ nationalities.

A 57-year-old resident died of COVID-19, bringing to 26 the overall such fatalities in Oman, the ministry said Tuesday.

Recoveries from the disease have reached 1,574, the ministry added.

Oman this week tightened precautions to stem the spread of the coronavirus, including banning all gatherings during the Eid Al Fitr holiday including the Eid prayer and celebrations, and warned violators of jailing and fine penalties.
