Abu Dhabi: Kuwaiti anti-narcotics police arrested a Kuwaiti national and an expatriate for drug abuse and narcotics trafficking in Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City, a multi-billion dollar city being built in Kuwait close to the sea border with Saudi Arabia, police said.
Acting on a tip-off received by the operations room that a person was suspected of carrying and consuming narcotics inside a vehicle at the Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City, a police patrol team immediately rushed to the scene. On seeing the police, the suspect tried to drive away, but before he could do so, the police officers managed to record the details of the car’s number plate.
As the suspect tried to speed off, his vehicle crashed into a police barrier at a checkpoint. He got off the car and tried to run away, but was soon held.
The man was found to be a foreign national. His accomplice, who was present in the car, was found to be a Kuwaiti. He, too, was arrested, the police said.
Upon frisking the two suspects and after thoroughly checking the car, police found a large quantity of narcotic pills.
The suspects and the drugs were referred to Public Prosecution for further investigations pending trial, police said.
