1987 - The six-day impasse over Sharjah was resolved amicably following a meeting between His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi and his brother Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi. The meeting, which was held at Al Maqam Palace in Al Ain under the auspices of President His Highness Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, was the culmination of four days of intense and wide-reaching deliberations by the Supreme Council, keeping uppermost in mind priorities that were best for the federation and the people of the UAE. Under the new arrangement, Shaikh Abdul Aziz stays as Crown Prince of Sharjah. However, he also becomes the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and in addition enjoys the stature of attending Supreme Council meetings.
