Dubai: The head of the UAE Automobile and Touring Club (UAEATC) has pledged that a proper report on the accident at the Dubai Autodrome on Friday morning will be tabled within the next two days.
"We are conducting detailed investigations into the incident that led to the sad death of a promising driver Christophe Hissette and a detailed report should be before us in the next couple of days," Mohammad Bin Sulayem, President, UAEATC, told Gulf News yesterday.
"From the preliminary findings, it looks like an accident to us. But the report will make it clear on how it occurred and what caused it. We are now waiting for the report to come," Bin Sulayem added.
The UAEATC chief, who was also involved in an identical accident during his rallying career in 2001, insisted he did not want to speculate on what went wrong on Friday during the qualifying round of the Gulfsport Radical Cup.
"At this stage, it's our job to monitor what is happening and all can be assured that the team of specialists led by the UAEATC Head of Technical [Robert Bryant] will come up with a report in the next couple of days," Bin Sulayem said. "There are so many angles to what may have happened out there, and all this will be clear once the report is out."
The Dubai Autodrome has confirmed investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, and these are being held under the auspices of the UAEATC in conjunction with Dubai Police.
He assured the sport would benefit in a positive manner from such an incident.
"Sport is here to stay and at this stage we need to learn from what has happened."
On a personal note, Bin Sulayem offered his sincere condolences to the Hissette family.
