The UAE has invested heavily in attracting the world's leading universities and academic institutions. Their advent over the past decade has greatly enhanced the educational experience and enriched the lives of thousands of students, obtaining world-recognised degrees and qualifications. This reputation is hard-earned, but it is also one which can be quickly whittled away by students who cheat and abuse the educational system.

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) recently expelled 34 students who were caught red-handed cheating during their examinations. Using everything from impersonation to cheat sheets, these students were subverting the hard-earned reputation of ADU.

There can be no quarter given to those who cheat.

The lessons learnt at university are with students the rest of their lives. If the lesson learnt is that it is all right to cheat and deceive on the road to success, it is a sorry one for all.

Cheaters cannot be tolerated.
