We are all aware of the need to protect our environment for future generations, conserving our natural resources and keeping the UAE clean. And for years the mantra of environmentalists has been to reduce, reuse and recycle.
A recent survey of shoppers in the UAE has shown that attitudes are slowly changing, with shoppers being aware of the need to switch to reusable bags and biodegradable material. Indeed, the survey says that a full 90 per cent of shoppers have heard of the dangers to the environment associated with plastic bags.
The survey also found that 66 per cent of shoppers polled would be willing to pay a nominal tax on using plastic bags. Such a green tax has been introduced by governments as far away as Canada and Ireland.
Switching to recyclable bags or biodegradable ones is a switch we all must make.
