The secret to a successful business is trust, says Ramesh Vora, of Bafleh Jewellery

Offering tips on how to select diamond jewellery and factors to keep in mind while choosing a piece, Ramesh says, "When buying a diamond solitaire, one must look for an authentic third party certification such as GIA, IGI or HRD. These institutions are recognised worldwide and have stringent quality standards when it comes to certification. Secondly, keep a budget in mind, and thirdly do your research to know what your money can buy. For example, a one carat round-shape diamond with VS1 Clarity and G color GIA Certified diamond will be around Dh13,500 to 17,000.

"Apart from Clarity and Color there are other aspects such as Cut, Polish and Symmetry that determine the price of diamond. Therefore, it is very important to buy solitaires from a trusted and knowledgeable jeweller who can guide you properly.”

Emphasising on the need for a clear conversation with the jeweller, Ramesh says it is important to know to the jeweller’s buyback and/or upgradation policy. “At Bafleh, we sell only international certified solitaires with a written buyback/exchange and upgradation policy. We exchange our solitaires without any deduction and in case of jewellery, within a year of purchase, For buy back, we deduct a nominal value of 5 per cent on Rappaport discount applied at the time of selling,” he explains.

Talking about what kind of diamond jewellery is in trend right now, Ramesh says apart from solitaires and diamond jewellery with colour stones, diamond jewellery with enamel colours is popular too. And what about CVD and lab-grown diamonds? “One must know that there is no exchange value or buyback value for lab grown diamonds other than the shop from where they were bought. But for natural diamonds, there is always a buyer anywhere in the world. At Bafleh we buy or exchange solitaires with International certificate even if it is not purchased from us.”

Dispelling all fears about the resale value of diamonds, Ramesh says natural diamonds are for ever and so is the resale value of the diamond and diamond jewellery. Nowadays price of diamond, especially a certified solitaire, is very easy to compare as customers can easily check the Solitaire price in the Rapaport report. At Bafleh, we offer 100 per cent cash refund within 30 days of the purchase for any solitaire or diamond jewellery.

And once you own a piece of diamond jewellery you love, the best way to look after it is to take it to your jeweller once in 3 to 6 months to get it polished or cleaned, Ramesh says. “And please don’t spray perfume or beauty oil on it. The chemicals in these products could cause dicolouration and damage it. Store your jewellery in a dry place at room temperature and away from moisture. Always use jewellery cleaning cloth and wipe it before storing it after use. It is advised to store your diamond jewellery separate from other jewellery.”
