London: Victoria Beckham has been appointed creative design executive at Range Rover. She said she was "very excited" at the new role.

Her job was announced at the 40th birthday celebrations of the brand at The Orangery at London's Kensington Palace.

A smaller, sleeker model called the Range Rover Evoque was also unveiled at the celebrity party co-hosted by Vogue, which was attended by 300 guests including royals Zara Phillips, and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

Beckham will work on a special edition of the Evoque, and called the vehicle "absolutely stunning".

She said she was looking forward to "everything" about the collaboration, and added: "I don't know where to start.

"It's an incredible opportunity I've been given. I'm very excited."

The Evoque will be on sale from next summer and is described as the "greenest" Range Rover yet.

It will be built at the firm's Halewood plant on Merseyside and will create around 1,000 jobs new jobs. Beckham told those gathered for the garden party: "I like to take on a challenge and I'm ready for it."

She added: "This is a very exciting collaboration.

"The classic British heritage of Range Rover and the effortless style, quality and beauty is something I truly admire and also what I hope to achieve with my own brand.

Alexandra Shulman, the editor of UK Vogue, said she had been responsible for introducing the singer to the car company.

She said: "I thought of her because she has a British fashion company, so this is a new brand merging with an old brand."

Land Rover and Range Rover design director Gerry McGovern said of his newest colleague: "She knows a lot about fashion and a lot about trends, a lot about luxury products.

"She has her own fashion business that has gained critical acclaim."
