As the cost of onions and potatoes drop, it may be time to cook up an Indian curry that combines the two - while also adding either chicken or fish, as they too have gotten slightly cheaper.

Also, if you were planning on going grocery shopping ahead of this weekend, it may be the ideal time as the cost of most fruits and vegetables have stayed in check.

While the maximum retail price of red onions fell steeply - down from Dh17 to Dh2.8 per kilo, which is a difference of Dh14.2, the cost of one kilo of potatoes fell by 30 fils from Dh2.3 to Dh2. However, the price of lettuce rose slightly, with a kilo now starting at Dh5, whereas on Wednesday it was Dh3.

When it comes to non-vegetarian items, the cost of fresh chicken fell from Dh12.9 to Dh12.3, a slight drop of 60 fils, while the price of Hamour fish dropped from Dh63 to Dh45.9 - a difference of Dh17.1. So, either a chicken or a fish-based dish can be on the cooking itinerary this weekend, as prices of other types of fish have stayed steady.

Among citrus fruits, a kilo of oranges got slightly cheaper - by Dh30 fils - now costing Dh4.5, slipping from Dh4.8 earlier - so maybe whip up an orange juice to lighten a heavy meal. However, a kilo of lime got a bit pricier, now ranging between Dh5 and Dh16.8, whereas yesterday the cost was between Dh4.5 to Dh14.
