Trump, Saudi Crown Prince discuss Iran

Leaders speak on phone on ways to maximise pressure against the Tehran regime

Washington: US President Donald Trump spoke with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman by phone on Tuesday, discussing Riyadh’s role in Middle East stability, maintaining pressure on Iran and the importance of human rights issues, the White House said.

Trump has said the US partnership with Saudi Arabia is important for the US economy and maintaining stability in the region.

The United States on Monday designated Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation.

The White House said Trump used the call with the crown prince to discuss ways of “maintaining maximum pressure against Iran.”

Saudi Arabia is leading a coalition battling Iranian-backed Al Houthi insurgents in Yemen.
