Second consignment of Saudi relief aid to flood-ravaged Sudan arrives in Khartoum

Cairo: The second plane carrying Saudi relief supplies to flood-ravaged Sudan has landed in the capital Khartoum as part of an aid airlift to the country, the Saudi news agency SPA reported today. The assistance is airlifted by the King Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian aid (KS relief).

The latest shipment included 97 tonnes of food supplies and building materials that will be distributed to benefit 3,000 people in the Sudanese states of Khartoum, Al Jazeera and the River Nile, Nasser bin Motleq, a KSrelief official, said.

The aid distribution will be carried out by a team from the centre in coordination with the Saudi embassy in Khartoum, local authorities and civil society groups in Sudan.

Late last month, Sudan experienced record floods that claimed dozens of lives and destroyed thousands of homes, prompting the government to a declare a national state of emergency for three months.
