Saudi envoy to US launches global wild cat group
Catmosphere seeks conservation of big cats including Arabian leopards
Cairo: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the US Princess Reema Bandar has announced the launch of a non-profit organisation aimed to save lives of wild cats including Arabian leopards and their ecosystems, the Saudi news agency SPA reported.
The group, named Catsmophere, also aims to support Panthera, the world’s only organisation devoted to conservation of 40 species of wild cats by launching a number of initiatives, awareness campaigns and backing related regional and global initiatives.
Princess Reema was appointed in 2019 as Saudi Arabia’s first female ambassador to the US. Launching Catmosphere, she said the aim is to build global momentum for importance of preserving wild cats and devising programmes to limit dangers to their survival.
She noted that the World Wildlife Fund has listed the Arabian leopard among the endangered animals.
According to her, Catmosphere will pursue its objectives through a set of strategic initiatives to be launched in 2021 and the following years. “In 2021 we are launching our first campaign, Catwalk, a global mass-participation activity taking place on 6 November,” she said. “It forms a bridge between cat conservation, the environment, and active lifestyle, and brings together my own past experiences in campaign curation,” she added.
