Cairo: The bodies of two children aged 8 and 11 have been retrieved after they drowned in a swamp in southern Saudi Arabia, a civil defence official said.

The civil defence service’s control and guidance centre in Asir received a report Wednesday evening that two children had drowned in a village in the Governorate of Southern Dhahran, local spokesman for civil defence Captain Mohammed bin Abdou said.

On their arrival at the site, rescue teams recovered the body of an eight-year-old while the body of the 11-year-old had already been recovered by locals.

Saudi media has recently reported several drowning incidents.

Earlier this month, three members of one family, including a child, drowned in a rain-lashed valley in Mecca.
