Dubai: Saudi Arabia will impose no more strict measures or curfew if all abide by the precautionary measures and preventive protocols to stem the spread of coronavirus, an official said.

According to the Saudi newspaper Okaz, Lt. Col. Talal Al Shalhoub, security spokesman at the Ministry of Interior, affirmed that imposing measures similar to curfew depends on how the public adheres to protocols.

“The issue is in our hands — citizens, residents and visitors. I hope that everyone takes what the government agencies decide seriously, and that community members spare no efforts to support the government in containing the pandemic,” Al Shalhoub added.

He revealed that a total of 47,335 violations of COVID-19 measures had been detected over the past week across all regions of the Kingdom, an increase of 48 per cent compared to the previous week.

“Riyadh topped all cities with 19,104 violations reported, which is about 40 per cent of the total violations, while Najran recorded the lowest count with 251 violations,” he said.

“Those arrested included some rumour mongers and others who are careless in applying the precautionary measures. They were found to be involved in circulating their violations through social media platforms and websites,” Al Shalhoub noted, adding that all legal measures have been taken against them.
