Saudi Arabia: Arab expat jailed for blackmailing woman with her private photos

Defendant also tried to lure woman’s friends via fake accounts

Dubai: The Mecca Criminal Court sentenced a young Arab man to one and a half years in jail for blackmailing a woman and threatening to circulate her personal photos and videos. The 30-year-old woman filed a defamation case accusing the defendant of impersonating her on social media accounts and publishing her photos.

According to court papers, the defendant confessed that he established a friendship with the woman via social media channels for one month. The accused asked the complainant to send him her pictures after which he severed his relationship with her and started to publish her private photos. He then tried to lure her friends via fake accounts.

The woman then was surprised to find her pictures on social media platforms.

The court found the defendant guilty and handed him out the jail term. He will be deported after serving the term.
